Obama vs McCain – again. Friday, Oct 31 2008

On television the other day, a Democrat operative pointed out that when Obama holds a rally, 25,000-30,000 people show up, whereas when McCain holds one he only draws 10,000-15,000.

The Republican spokesman replied, “That’s because McCain’s supporters are at work.”

“Always vote for principle, lthough you may vote alone, you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost.”  John Quincy Adams
This is just your friendly reminder to vote.
You only have one vote. But remember if you pray – one shall chase a thousand, two put ten thousand to flight! Deut. 32:30
Our prayers are more effective than our vote!!
Pray for a righteous government and righteous judges!
I’m claiming Isaiah 1:26 ”Then I will restore your judges as at the first, and your counselors as at the beginning;after that you will be called the city of righteousness, a faithful city.”

It is time for a change – not one of more programs, more politicians making promises – but one of a return to righteousness and the faith of our fathers!

Ode To Ben Wilson Thursday, Oct 30 2008

Ben Wilson Champion

Ben Wilson Champion

ODE TO BEN WILSON

There is an faithful gentleman

Benny Wilson by name.

He’s the caretaker

Of my high school flame.

Ben is sleek and cool

In all his catlike doings

He loves snacks and toys

Patted, petted, wahooing.

My friend says Ben

Keeps him sane

Ben makes no comments

It’s too germane.

He loves to be petted

And cuddled close

Given sweets and tuna toast

Some sun in which to doze.

Quiet napping in the sunshine

Silent lazing in the afternoon

Celebrating his lives of nine

Purring contently and in tune.

Why does he get an ode?

All his own, never viewed?

Beloved cat for a pal of long ago,

Returned to me anew.

Thank you Ben for keeping him company.

OMG – Sheer Hilarity – Thanks McCain! Sunday, Oct 19 2008

A friend sent me the following video – it was hilarious!  I cried laughing so hard!

Click on the url and settle back for the funniest moments
of the entire presidential election campaign! It’s in 2 parts – and you’ll want to watch both.

Answer to the CapedCrusader Sunday, Oct 19 2008

I thought a good idea would be to publically answer the following post.

First, I can’t see the cartoon. I don’t know if that’s on my end or your end.  I deleted it until I can figure out how to convert a bitmap to a png or jpg.

Second, why don’t you tell me why you want to vote for a man who seems intent on keeping this country on the same disaster-strewn course?

I don’t want to vote for a man who I deem as slick.  Obama never answers any of my questions.

Like where is his birth-certificate showing him to be a natural-born citizen (required to be a POTUS).  The one on his website is not a certified birth certificate.

Like why is he calling himself an Afro-American if his Mom is a white woman?  Is being just a plain American shameful or not politically powerful enough?

Like why all the associations with shady characters?  You don’t see known terrorists, racists, war-mongers, and frauds dining with or giving big money to the other candidates.

Like if he is going to bring “change” – then why do all his policies smack of typical democratic philosophy?

Like if he is going to bring “change” – then why does his scanty voting record show him a company man?

Like if he is really “for” the working man – why do so many liberal, out-of-touch with reality Hollywood stars favor him?  With few exceptions the millionaires who talk about him have no idea what most of us go through unless of course they interview them.

Like if he is FOR the young people of America – why doesn’t he tell them to go to college by getting a job and paying for it rather than being “given” their education?  Is he trying to perpetuate the welfare system in the USA by including all our young people.  Our sons both worked their way through school.  They appreciate their education and they are hard workers with personal integrity – not freeloaders.

Like if he values life – how can he support partial birth abortions?

Like if he values education – why is he against parents being able to choose how they want to educate their children?

Time does not permit me to list all the reasons why I won’t vote for Obama.  But perhaps my African American daughter would like to take a shot at it.  We’ll see.

Caped Crusader.  Be careful.  For example – you are forgetting that a Republican president can be controlled by a Democratic congress – yet he will take the blame for everything that goes worng.  Shame.

I only pray our next President will be a Father to this nation.  That’s what it needs.  Not a politician.  John McCain is a fine father with a track record of doing what is right, even in the most difficult of circumstances.  Not always right – not every time – but open to change, and humble enough to admit it.

Political Axioms Saturday, Oct 18 2008

I don’t know if all these are sourced accurately.  I hope so.  A friend sent them to me – and I liked them so much – I don’t care who said them.  They made me chuckle – and with politics going the way it is today, welll, I needed a chuckle.

Let me know how you feel about these political axions.

FOX NEWS Wednesday, Oct 15 2008

Goodness gracious –

I have recently discovered Fox News.  I know, I know – what cave have I been hiding in?  Well, I confess.
I have been hiding in a cave a bit – that’s what folks like me do.  We hide out with the Lord to get our direction from the only ONE who ever confessed to be THE WAY, THE TRUTH and THE LIFE.

But back to Fox News.  I am astounded to see things there that I previously only saw on BCC and other international stations.  Did you know we don’t get the truth, the whole truth or the unbiased truth?

For example – during 911 – I was online with friends in England who had a minimum of 5 minutes advance on us who thought we were watching it live.  They told me the first tower was falling.  I was sure they were wrong – after all I was watching it.  Then it did.  And the 2nd.  And for weeks afterwards conferring with them – I was astounded at the lack of truth portrayed as truth.

Okay, okay – so we all know the media is biased.  (My hobbyhorse right now – IKE is off the map – inspite of thousands in need down here).

BUT back to Fox.  Take a look at this cartoon.

Tell me what you think. Then tell me why you want to vote for a man who is portrayed as the one with the “change” agenda by such liars.

God Rules – We don’t need a King! Wednesday, Oct 15 2008

I’ve been watching clouds this morning and just pondering why on earth Israel chose a king when they had God as their one and only, supreme ruler – - and why it seems like America is throwing away our Godly inheritance to choose a king today.

This is the scripture the Lord gave me.  What an encouragement!

Psalm 97
(The Message)

God rules: there’s something to shout over!

On the double, mainlands and islands—celebrate!

Bright clouds and storm clouds circle ’round him;

Right and justice anchor his rule.

Fire blazes out before him,

Flaming high up the craggy mountains.

His lightenings light up the world;

Earth, wide-eyed, trembles in fear.

The mountains take one look at God

And melt, melt like wax before earth’s Lord.

The heavens announce that he’ll set everything right,

And everyone will see it happen—glorious!

All who serve handcrafted gods will be sorry—

And they were so proud of their ragamuffin gods!

On your knees, all you gods—worship him!

And Zion, you listen and take heart!

Daughters of Zion, sing your hearts out:

God has done it all, has set everything right.

You, God, are High God of the cosmos,

Far, far higher than any of the gods.

God loves all who hate evil,

And those who love him he keeps safe,

Snatches them from the grip of the wicked.

Light-seeds are planted in the souls of God’s people,

Joy-seeds are planted in good heart-soil.

So, God’s people, shout praise to God,

Give thanks to our Holy God!

This word says that light seeds are planted in God’s people – incorruptible seeds of light – seeds of joy unspeakable – full of glory – and that we’re to demonstrate it by giving thanks.  We’re to demonstrate it by shouting praise.

Hmmm – sounds a whole lot better than worrying, fretting, and being afraid – bound to this earth and whatever we see – or feel.

Finances change.  The weather changes.  Politicians come and go.  Our health improves and fails.  Only God never changes – only God is true.

Yep – much, much better.  Believe I’ll stop now and take time to watch those clouds – and PRAISE HIM!!!

The Marketing of Evil Tuesday, Oct 7 2008

I received an email today from a trusted source – businessman Os Hillman. This info fits in the category of being wise as serpents – harmless as doves.  Not fearful – watchful.  Here’s what it said.

Check it out!

Check it out!

The Marketing of Evil: How Radicals, Elitists and Pseudo-Experts Sell Us Corruption Disguised as Freedom
David Kupelian – (SKU#: NM27769)

“[This book] is a serious wake-up call for all who cherish traditional values, the innocence of children, and the very existence of our great country.” —Dr. Laura Schlessinger, talk-show host and author.

Millions of Americans today accept ideas and behaviors that would have shocked previous generations.

In this groundbreaking and meticulously researched book, Kupelian peels back the veil of marketing-induced deception to reveal exactly when, where, how, and especially why Americans bought into the lies that now threaten the future of the country.

Why?

David Kupelian’s book reveals how much of what Americans once almost universally abhorred has been packaged, perfumed, gift-wrapped and sold to them as though it had great value. Highly skilled marketers, playing on our deeply felt national values of fairness, generosity and tolerance, have persuaded us to embrace as enlightened and noble that which all previous generations since America’s founding regarded as grossly self-destructive.

  • Why is it increasingly hard to know if experts are telling us the truth?
  • Why is anti-Americanism becoming commonplace–among Americans?
  • Why is our legal system criminalizing public prayer?
  • Why do half of all American marriages fall apart–including Christian marriages?
  • Why are parents increasingly afraid to let their children watch TV?

From the federal government to the public school system to the news media to the hidden creators of “youth culture,” nothing is exempt from the thousand-watt spotlight of Kupelian’s journalistic inquiry.

David reveals the spiritual roots behind many of the ungodly agendas being pushed through news, media, education, government, and the arts and entertainment.  It is a strategy of the enemy to get mainstream buy-in–like a frog in a slowly heated kettle.  Read this book and you will get a wake-up call!”  -Os Hilman

This is an up-close, modern-day look at what is traditionally known as “temptation”—the art and science of making immorality look good.

This reminded me of a book I read in the 70’s – Subliminal Seduction.  This book detailed how we are seduced by the media to buy what we buy.  Made me angry – and painfully aware of how I purchase by emotion rather than need.  Now more than ever we need to watch and be careful – God has better use for our hard earned cash than to frivolously spend it on our flesh.

Join me in celebrating the Fall Feasts with an increased push toward purity in all things.  Examine your life and lifestyle.  Can you make better use of your time and money?  Can you be a better witness for the hope that is in Jesus Christ?

Fear-mongers – Lord. help us! Monday, Oct 6 2008

What Then Shall We Do?

If there is anything I hate it is fear-mongering.  That means those who are laden with fears are willfully communicating their fears to others.  My salvation scripture was 2 Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.  I will not receive a spirit of fear.  I believe God intends us to be overcomers, take dominion and demonstrate the Gospel of GOOD news with power, love and using our sound mind.

Fear-mongering is despicable.  Fear is like unseen termites undermining the very foundation of faith, like undetected saboteurs destroying the very lives of potential ministers and ministries.

Before you get hostile toward me just know I have tons of mercy for them in my heart.  Fear seems so very real. The acronym for fear is False Evidence Appearing Real (Big thanks to a dear friend of mine who signs her emails with this).

I understand.  I was once consumed with fears also.  Before I was saved, I used to say, “Paranoia is my brother.”  And then for two decades I attended a church where leaders sometimes used fear to motivate us to good works.  Fears like –  (1) Fear of being different than others (2) Fear of what others would think, (3) Fear of not being perfect, (4) Fear of displeasing the pastor or other leadership, (5) Fear of not being good enough to represent the church, and (6) Fear of missing the Rapture.

The fruit of that leadership by fear still holds many who attended with me in bondage.  After spending years training, after giving up family, careers, education and waiting to be “released” to ministry – they still are fruitless.  Most have never won or discipled souls.  Most have never had any ministry other than worshipping or paying tithes.  It is sad beyond belief.  All those hours of Bible College and note-taking during sermons wasted.

Then there are ones who have attempted to move on, move out of fears – and have done things for the Lord – yet many of them are still in bondage.  The trouble with being deceived by fear is it is deceptive and mostly unseen.  (Praise God for those unafraid who do exploits! You know who you are!)

Along with the fear comes unaccountability.  Thus difficulties are always someone else’s problem.  I see this today in a large percentage of those who remain victims of other people’s manipulations (controlling pastors, the media, the world government, the medical fields and on and on.)

Many years of ministry has exposed me to hundreds of others whose faith and/or environments have tattooed them with fear.  The more “religious” the faith is the deeper the fears typically.  It doesn’t seem to matter whether it is liberal or conservative faith – it depends upon whether or not they are “religious” in the demonstration of their faith.

In one of our churches we had several families with more than 6 children.  They received tons of flak from well-meaning (but fearful) believers who felt having children in this day and age was dangerous.  They on the other hand felt like God had led them to have a large family.  These children were, bright, articulate and extremely well-behaved.  They had no lack.  God had provided well for them and their parents – and yet these critical fear-mongers were “concerned.”

The sad part is the fear-mongers had forgotten that Jesus gave them free wills to choose.  They do not have to be a victim or afraid.  But – they are – and it mocks the price He paid to set us free from fear.   (See Hebrews 2:14-15 Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and might free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives.)

Now to the heart of the matter I am moved to discuss today.  (Sorry – I’m longwinded – but I’m just trying to get a background for you.)

These same people and their children are now in round 2 (or 3, 4, 5,) of fear motivation.  They are embracing paranoia about our government (yes it is imperfect) the end times (yes – we are nearing it) and about each other (yes – word curses are real.)

BUT – motivation by fear is evil and the result can be deadly.

In the end times – the Bible says in Luke 21:26 men’s hearts will fail them BECAUSE they look at the things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.  Beloved, that means heart attacks will be common to those who are fear motivated and concentrate on the evil around us!

Matthew 24, Mark 13, Luke 21 and 23 are all chapters detailing what the end times will be like.  And every generation since those words were penned had times when they felt sure they were in the midst of the “end times.”  I was so sure Jesus would return soon I sold everything and refused to marry, not once but three times.  Oh silly girl.

I am really glad that not everyone agreed with Paul who wrote, “I think then that this is good in view of the present distress, that it is good for a man to remain as he is” (unmarried)  in 1 Corinthians 7:26.  For if they had agreed and did it – the 1st century church would have been the last church!

What then shall we do?  How do we stay apprised of the national and international news and not give in to fear?  How do we keep from being “conspiracy theorists” rather than victorious Bible believers who plunder the enemy’s camp?  How do we operate in an evil world but remain subject only to the KING of kings?

First – we must recognize – these facts.

  1. We are not greater than our Master.  Matthew 10:27 Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be shrewd as serpents and innocent as doves.  But beware of men, for they will hand you over to the courts and scourge you in their synagogues; and you will even be brought before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles.  But when they hand you over, do not worry about how or what you are to say; for it will be given you in that hour what you are to say.  For it is not you who speak, but it is the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you. Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death.  You will be hated by all because of My name, but it is the one who has endured to the end who will be saved. But whenever they persecute you in one city, flee to the next; for truly I say to you, you will not finish going through the cities of Israel until the Son of Man comes.  A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a slave above his master.  It is enough for the disciple that he becomes like his teacher and the slave like his master. If they have called the head of the house Beelzebub, how much more will they malign the members of his household!  THEREFORE do not fear them, for there is nothing concealed that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known.
  2. We do not have to submit to fear because we are redeemed by love. 1 John 4:18-20 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear , because fear  involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love. We love, because He first loved us.
  3. We will be tested and tried, persecuted and perhaps killed.  Revelation 2:10-11 Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to cast some of you into prison, so that you will be tested, and you will have tribulation for ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.  He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes will not be hurt by the second death.’
  4. We are to continue being obedient to the command given to Adam in the Garden.  Genesis 1:28 God blessed them; and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
  5. We are not to let present distresses affect us – we are born from above, we are citizens of heaven, and we are co-workers with Him.  We are in the world but not of the world.  He is and has always been our protector, our provider, our strong tower, our refuge and our strength.  And if He is not – now is the time to change that!

Secondly – we must act!

  1. We must speak up when people use hyperboles to describe world situations; words like plunging, soaring, skyrocketing, and crisis in attempts to make us fearful.
  2. We must use balance in our lives so we don’t invite trouble from people who are fearful themselves.  That may mean being educated in politics, medicine, education and other fields where ignorance could cause people to be fearful.
  3. We must demonstrate the GOOD NEWS with power, love and a sound mind.  That means being pro-active, not reactive, when situations arise such as natural disasters or political uncertainty. Reach out!  Don’t just sit on the couch worrying or uninvolved in your church, city or community.
  4. We must trust God.  Worry is sin.  Being alert and vigilant is not sin – it is wisdom.  We may learn things that are not pleasant – but to worry indicates a lack of faith in God to whom nothing is impossible.
  5. We must do our part.  Even if the worst political candidate is elected – God can still save our country.  Remember He used Cyrus to bless His people, and Daniel and Joseph were both prosperous leaders in heathen nations.  Esther was a queen to a horrid man according to history and saved her people. Don’t allow fear and worry to consume you.
  6. We must remember perfect love casts out fear. Be humble enough to ask others if they believe you to be fearful or paranoid.  If they say “yes” – practice deliverance.  Ask them to pray for you and show you where fear has you in its grip.  You may not need to change your opinions, but you need to be free from fear’s grasp.
  7. We must get on with the Master’s business!  Stay busy in God and you don’t have time for fear.
  8. Have the attitude of a Berean (see Acts 17:11) who Acts 17:11 searched the scriptures daily, to see the truth of the matters.  And have this attitude - whatever is true , whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. Philippians 4:8

Hurricane Ike no longer “top story” Part 2 Monday, Oct 6 2008

My heart went out to Ruth who posted a comment on part 1 of this entry.  No electricity still!  Camping.  And her letter lists all kinds of indignities by the company who is supposed to provide “service” for which we all pay dearly.  Made me sad for her.  And mad for her too – Central Point Energy – ATT – sometimes a comedy of errors.

And even though it’s been over a week since I saw her post (and lost my internet due to IKE) I’m still concerned for Gulf Coast residents who are hurting.  Are you?

Yeah – I know – 7/8 of the world lives with far less.  Yeah – i know we’re blessed (and/or spoiled.)

But the facts remain – it is going to take years for our area to recover and like Katrina and Rita survivors who’ve been written off by the media (unless Oprah or the Good Morning America folks take notice) there’s not much hope of hurrying governmental agencies along.

I heard that folks in the NE are still waiting for FEMA funds 4 years after their big storm up there.  Likewise the flooded out Midwest.

I think those of us who can be squeaky wheels (you know the ones that get the grease – to date myself further) ought to really begin to scream.

Write letters!  Call your local congress person, email them – daily.  Call or write your mayor.  Call the TV station’s troubleshooters.

And then go above all their heads and pray asking Jesus for the mercy He promised the helpless – for without HIS help we could be helpless.

Then – the other thing we can do is help each other.

Do you hae electricity?  Loan your generator to someone who doesn’t.
Is your pantry full?  Make up some bags of groceries (that don’t require electricity) and take them to the food bank.
Are your kid’s closets full? Do they have enough toys to start a shop?  Simplify the little darlings lives by dividing their stuff in 1/2 and taking it down to Salvation Army.

BUT do something.  Don’t just complain.  Do something!  The aftermath of IKE is going to be with us a long, long time and we need everyone to step up to the plate.
