We know them, we support them and we work with them!
Please donate to their disaster relief missions.
What they do from their webpage I’ve posted below:
The Somebody Cares Mission is to let people know that Somebody Cares. Because Jesus cares, we the church care. As a result, through grass roots efforts, communities are being transformed and the church is uniting. This is unity with a purpose.
We mobilize Christians into evangelism, thereby transforming communities. We seek to identify ministries that empower people to reach their full potential and become all that God envisioned when He created them. By standing side by side with our neighbors, we help them reclaim their community. We do not take over or do for others what they can do for themselves. Rather, we empower them so that they can do for themselves.
Together, we are advancing the gospel and building the kingdom of God through compassion. None of this would have significant kingdom impact without a constant commitment to personal integrity, family intimacy, and unified church interactions. Together we glorify God better!”

Business Support and Hurricane Ike and Morning Meanderings and Prayer Intercession
disaster relief, Hurricane Ike, prayer, Somebody Cares alabaxterblog
8:29 pm
This morning in the comfort of my air-conditioned home, watching Martha, and catching up on email – with Scott virtually at work in the office -my heart just stuttered.
I was praying earlier and thankful for my blessings. I am so blessed. Loving husband, incredible kids, wonderful friends – tropical living – and a God that pursues relationship with me. I began weeping I was so thankful.
Then my heart went to all the Gulf Coast residents who have none of those things – not even the basics – electricity, water, sewer or home.
Please don’t forget the Hurricane Ike victims. Please. Donate to Somebody Cares – Houston. Please. Go to http://www.somebodycares.org and give generously.
If you are already stretched to sacrificial – donate time. Rick Torrison (the River Church) recently sent us an email list of things we could do which I have posted below for you.

Dear Scott & Julie,
There is a mighty lot of difference between saying prayers and praying. –John G. Lake
It is easy to get overwhelmed with all that is going on. There is so much need that we often don’t know where to start!
There is never a better place to begin then in Prayer. Prayer is the foundation of all that we do and we can never do enough.
These prayers come from the front lines of those who are working to offer love and relief to all those in need. These are often urgent requests that need immediate answers.
Would you please lift these prayers up in faith, declaring the promises of God over every need and issue! We are Children of the King and it is time we come before him as Esther’s believing in a speedy response
Luke 18:6-8 Then the Lord said, “Hear what the unjust judge said. And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?”
God will answer our prayers! God will find faith on the Earth in each of you who serve!
Pray as if lives depend on it! (They do!)
HURRICANE IKE PRAYER POINTS
“Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.” - Matthew 5:3-9

I was astounded to see that the Gulf Coast disaster is no longer a “top story” on the news blips on the computer homepages. Lord – it’s back to the war – 6 killed here, 3 US soldiers charged, Chinese baby formula, politics, Wall Street, Lehmans, the AIG bail out- etc. etc.

No more.
Gilcrest is no more. 200+ beach homes are no more. People risking rattlesnake bites to check for survivors. Devastation as millions are without power. Hours in line trying to get gas and commodities. If this is not being a “top story” – and bashing our government is – then you have proof positive of the liberal influenced media’s motives.
Just because we’re Texans and tough – doing for ourselves and others – I can’t believe it’s no longer a top story. Sensationalists! Makes me sick.
No matter. God has helped us, will help us, and if the media won’t by spotlighting real people in the USA – God will provide. He never breaks faith.

Hey y’alluns -
If you are looking for a way to really help? Donate cash - but you want it to go to local needs? Want to donate safely? Donate generously to Somebody Cares. http://www.somebodycares.org/ This group is an awesome group of caring individuals – we know them – our family has supported them and Ben, Lori, Albert and Scott Bowen have all worked for them and with them. Albert actually had to go move servers the day afterwards because the offices were damaged (see website photos.)
Check out the webpage – and don’t hesitate to donate. What you spend driving thru McDonalds or at Starbucks could go a long, long way to helping people down here.

Somebody Cares!
Quote from Somebody Cares Disaster Relief webpage
The Somebody Cares Disaster Response approach is that of Church-Based response. Throughout the many disasters the Somebody Cares network has been part of—from Tropical Storm Allison flooding in 2001 to the Southeast Asia tsunami to Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, Ivan and Wilma—we’ve seen over and over again how the church responds quicker and more precisely than any other agency. Even the government has taken note of this! A Homeland Security Institute report issued in December 2006 states: “It was neighborhood congregations….—the local fabric of America—that appeared to have carried the day to a great degree.”
That’s because the church is the heart of its community, and our highest common denominator is Jesus. We were made for adversity because we were made to be the peacemakers in the midst of the storms – to bring hope in the midst of despair.
Instead of spending tens of thousands of dollars on administrative overhead; the Somebody Cares network funnels donated funds and urgently needed resources directly to communities that are hardest hit – to be distributed by church-based volunteers who know and love their neighbors and neighborhoods. Being a tangible expression of God’s love to our neighbors means we must excel at unity, organization, and giving.
Our goal is to see churches empowered to reach their communities and be there on the ground with tangible resources to meet the desperate needs of disaster survivors. To do this we recognize that we need to work with government agencies and other organizations without losing our distinctiveness.
When disasters happen, real people have very desperate needs. Often, resources to meet the needs become tied up in bureaucracy and bottlenecks. We work with agencies like FEMA, the Red Cross, Salvation Army and others—to be an asset, but not to be controlled. They have great systems, but the church has people who know their communities. But these agencies are not our source for disaster response; rather we look are a resource to facilitate aid directly in communities affected by disaster – all across the country and around the world!
Join the Somebody Cares Disaster Response team by giving generously today!

Hurricane Ike and Politics and Rants
Barak Obama, felony crimes, GI's in Iraq, Hoshyar Zebari, traitor alabaxterblog
1:00 am
Obamanation! Traitor. I am so praying over this. We here in the Gulf Coast need a commander-in-chief who won’t sell us out to the highest bidder. Read the following comments by others – or google it yourself. Please. Particularly if you are thinking of voting for Obama.

Obama_nation
http://www.nypost.com/seven/09152008/postopinion/opedcolumnists/obama_tried_to_stall_gis_iraq_withdrawal_129150.htm
This article is not something slapped together from some anonymous source. The Iraqi Foreign Minister, Hoshyar Zebari, went on record with this.
If it is true, Obama is guilty of violating The Logan Act, which prohibits private citizens from negotiating with foreign governments without US authority (which Obama does not have) regarding US involvment in a conflict in an attempt to influence the foreign government’s actions. It’s a felony.
If Zebari stands by this charge, Obama’s campaign is over – at least for all logical thinking people who vote for the individual – not their party, not their race, not their charisma.
The last thing this country needs is an someone who will compromise the safety of our troops and our objectives of victory in wartime to further his political career put in as Commander in Chief.
Barack Obama’s campaign responded today:
http://afp.google.com/article/ALeqM5hi9TDNHvuBZpFsO8ZbiFYsnbIl3A
Obama’s national security spokeswoman Wendy Morigi said Taheri’s article bore “as much resemblance to the truth as a McCain campaign commercial.”
In fact, Obama had told the Iraqis that they should not rush through a “Strategic Framework Agreement” governing the future of US forces until after President George W. Bush leaves office, she said.
So what the spokeswoman said was
1) Everyone is lying; and
2) Obama did everything he is accused of doing! He told the Iraqi government not to negotiate with the President of the United States.
We have 7 weeks until the election friends – the polls are tied up again – but if we push for honesty and tell others – Obama will be found out. Don’t give in! Don’t give up!

If you don’t have power – this won’t help. Sorry.
(That is the most aggravating thing about the Houston TV and radio stations – they don’t give addresses and phone numbers slow enough or at all. We thought they forgot this part of Brazoria county………… in spite of 60,000 + population and power outs, and critical needs.)
BUT here’s help for Pearland residents needing gas or wanting to know what stores are open. If you have friends or family without power or internet – call them or text them this info. And tell them get there EARLY for the gasoline.

ICE
And for the last 2 days there was ice available at the intersection of 1128 and Fite Road on the West side of Pearland at what I believe is the Barry Miller Elementary school – they have been giving out ice about 1/2 – 1 block south of the intersection in the school parking lot on 1128.

4:11 am
Hiya!
Just wanting to let you all know we got power and internet just now. It’s been going off and on all day.
Yeah – it’s been wild – camping out in our own home, finally able to get a generator yesterday. Scott’s fancy battery enabled him to use his C-Pap so he could breathe and sleep at night.
We even had hot water and were able to cook! Thank the Lord for natural gas!! And praise God for the cool weather. We’ve not turned on our air conditioner yet – humidity is so down!
Our home looks good. We’re blessed in that way – all of our other neighbors lost shingles, trees and had some damages. Huge trees 60′ tall uprooted, limbs broken off – whata mess!!
We lost our fence – I’ll put up some pictures – I no longer have a secret garden – it’s very public now – like from 5 houses east of us. Nearly everyone in our neighborhood lost fences – 6′ cedar fences couldn’t stand up to what we’re being told was 100 mph winds around here.
We are so very, very thankful. We drove around trying to find the ice and generators and frankly – it’s a mess here. A serious mess. Although – our neighbors are out in their driveways with chairs, coolers and tables. Everyone is helping everyone else in cleaning up and encouraging one another.
Ben, Scott and Albert helped tarp and plastic 3 homes the first day afterwards, and cleaned up another one today where the roof fell in. Please pray for this neighbor of ours – great Christians – but serious health problems – Scott is there now cleaning up the fiberglass and ceiling junk.
Chris and Sara’s condo in Clear Lake/Webster area suffered no damage either. God took care of the Baxters. He came down yesterday from where they evacuated and brought ice – thank God, and roofing repair stuff. Ben and he went with some other guys to work on homes and one business. Albert had to move the servers for Somebody Cares which lost it’s main building. Somebody Cares is still meeting others’ needs though!
I burst into tears the first time I saw and hugged Chris – didn’t realize until then that I thought I might not ever see him again. Woke up the morning after the hurricane – hugging my Bible (when did I get that?) and Scott. Our dog in bed with us……………… she’s always afraid in storms.
More later, just wanting to let you all know we survived and are fine.

curfews, Houston, hurricane force winds, Hurricane Ike alabaxterblog
4:18 am
Two new announcements -
By 6:30 pm we will begin having hurricane force winds in our area – so they are saying get off the freeways by then. We aren’t going anywhere – for sure we’re not going out in that wind.NO TOLERATION POLICY for gouging, looting, etc. The police have permission to take immediate and effective methods to stop these things. Curfew at 7 pm in all mandatory evacuation areas until 6 a.m. tonight, and Saturday night. As I said – we’re not going anywhere – but we are watching our neighbors homes and they’re watching ours.
Thousands and thousands of emergency responders are available in our area. Houston area has stepped up since Katrina and Rita and has really prepared by training people, by enabling providers, and by using planning to be ready.
The new computer models make it pretty clear where IKE is going. Check it out. I’m a bit concerned for friends in OKC and SW Missouri relatives. Both these areas have been hard hit these last 2 years.

9-12 5 pm track
Here’s a website to see what the winds are where we are at any point in time.
